Back in mid-February, Cal spent the day working with world-renowned chef, Gordon Ramsay and his 24 Hours crew, to help inspire the Phoenix Emporium team as they rebuilt and transitioned their restaurant to a new location.

This was shown in the episode of Gordon Ramsay’s 24 Hours to Hell and Back, SOS which aired on the FOX Network last week.

The two-hour “Save Our Town” special, which drew nearly two and a half million viewers, showed the revitalization efforts that took place earlier this year in Ellicott City, Maryland. Ramsay enlisted the help of Cal and other former Baltimore sports greats and dignitaries in the state to help rebuild three local businesses that were devastated by the massive floods in 2016 and 2018.

In one part of the episode, Phoenix Emporium owner Mark Hemmis and his team gathered to work on projects as a team-building activity. Ramsay then spoke to them about the difficult transition of merging two restaurants to come together as one, (eventually to become Phoenix Upper Main) through strength and perseverence and there being only one person that “knows more about that than anything in the world.”

Ramsay then introduces Cal as he talked to them about the chemistry that is needed to bring a team together. Likewise, in business, Cal states, you bring “individual talents together to work together as a team, and then, magicial things can happen.”
